CABS Backs Campaign to Boost Early Cancer Detection for Women

Staff Writer

HARARE – CABS bank has partnered with supermarket chain TM Pick n Pay and the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe to offer free cervical and breast cancer screenings across the country this month, in an effort to boost early detection rates.

The initiative will kick off in Masvingo on March 9 at First Mutual Clinic, before moving to Dr. Shamu’s practice in the Mucheke suburb the following day. Medical teams will then travel to Chinhoyi, Banket, Gwanda, and Zvishavane, concluding on March 26.

“Early detection and treatment saves lives,” reads promotional material for the campaign, which targets women in both urban and peri-urban areas where access to specialist screening can be limited.

The screenings are being offered free of charge at all participating clinics and surgeries, removing a significant financial barrier for many families facing economic hardship. Breast and cervical cancer are among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Zimbabwe, often due to late diagnosis when treatment options are limited.

Health experts recommend regular screening to identify pre-cancerous changes or detect cancers at an early, more treatable stage. The campaign runs through March 26.
