HARARE – ZIMBABWE will have about US$250 million in reserve by January 1 to fund its response to the El Nino weather phenomenon, on top of money earmarked in the 2027 budget, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said.
El Nino typically brings drought to southern Africa, threatening harvests, water supplies and power generation.
Ncube told a virtual briefing at the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings that the funds would supplement regular allocations in the 2027 budget to cushion the country against the weather shock.
“So we are ready for that climate fight, if I can put it like that,” he said.
